Tir Glas
Sustainable Rural Life
*Tir Glas (Welsh) – “green land”; fertile landscape and culture
Tir Glas is a community of thinking and experiential learning devoted to the study and development of sustainable rural life.
Tir Glas is a community of thinking and experiential learning devoted to the study and development of sustainable rural life; promoting economic prosperity and sovereignty, environmental responsibility and the preservation and enrichment of cultural heritage.
It is based in Lampeter but is outward looking both in drawing on global thinking and partnerships and seeking interventions that impact positively on the region and rural Wales as a whole through collaboration and geographically dispersed delivery.
Tir Glas is built around three core strands of education and research:
- Food
- Timber
- Enterprise
Our Tir Glas Food Academy is all about local, sustainable food: regenerative food systems, farm to fork, food education, food policy in Wales and for the world.
The focus of the CWIC Welsh Timber and Building Performance Development Centre will be on understanding the physical and mechanical distinctiveness of Welsh wood and how this all impacts on the way it can be used for different building purposes.
The Rural Business and Enterprise Centre will focus on developing the growth of a new cohort of informed practitioners and entrepreneurs and will look to promote the adoption of sustainable and more resilient methods of thinking and operating.”
